The project

The idea behind the creation of protected natural areas is to have an instrument for the conservation of the biosphere, in accordance with global strategies regarding this issue. This type of conservation is based on the sustainable and prudent use of the Earth's resources in order to generate greater benefit for current generations and maintain the potential to meet the needs and aspirations of future generations.

In general, the public use of a protected natural area results in the frequent use of such spaces and the carrying out of certain touristic, recreational or educational activities. These areas are often used in a rather non-specific way, and are often seen more as free or empty space than as valuable environmental areas.

Therefore, it is essential that protected natural areas provide good information for users and visitors. The information should be used to satisfy the needs of visitors based on knowledge of the facts, the situations or the processes of the protected natural area, in addition to those related to well-being, orientation, safety, enjoyment and time-planning.

Therefore, and taking into consideration the success of the campaign to raise awareness about littering on island beaches in 2017, it has been decided to run the information and surveillance campaign in areas of environmental relevance. This project consists of implementing an information and surveillance campaign in these areas and focuses on informing visitors in each of the different protected natural areas, as well as on recording the results within the Natura 2000 network.
