Acquisition of the Es Canons Estate

The project

The Es Canons Estate is a very significant place for the region of Llevant and for the general public. Its landscape is highly valuable, which makes it a place of great natural heritage that could benefit both the citizens and also those who visit our islands.

The project is based on the acquisition of the Es Canons Estate by the Balearic Islands Government by using funds from the sustainable tourism tax and consists, in particular, of the recovery and revaluation of this piece of historical, cultural and environmental heritage.

At present, the property is on the market and although several prices have been made public, the Government of the Balearic Islands has received a request to buy the property. It is an opportunity for the Government of the Balearic Islands to acquire an emblematic and unique natural space of public interest.

Among other things, it will enable the possibility to expand the Llevant Natural Park, open a new section of the GR-222 motorway that is currently interrupted between Betlem and the Colònia de Sant Pere where it reaches the private Es Canons Estate, and allow the administration of Ses Cases Velles to reconstruct and convert the estate for the enjoyment of citizens (lodging, refuge, etc...).

In addition, and taking advantage of the fact that the estate has a heliport, it could be employed as a place for helicopters that are used to extinguish fires, since they are currently temporarily located at the Petra Heliport, which means an increase in response time in the case of a forest fire in the Llevant region.
