The project concerns the rehabilitation of the Phoenician settlement of sa Caleta (UNESCO World Heritage Site) where good models of the architecture, urban planning and physical features of this type of site can be viewed and enjoyed. Besides the importance of these Phoenician archaeological remains, the N-52 coastal battery will be restored. It was built in the 20th century to help the island defend itself and it has been recognised as an asset of cultural interest (BIC) in the historic place category.

The project is divided into two differentiated actions: firstly, the rehabilitation of the Phoenician settlement and the coastal battery to prepare them for visits, and, secondly, the creation of an interpretation centre to provide visitors with details to understand the cultural aspects of the Phoenician settlement and the coastal battery and their surrounding area within Ses Salines Natural Park.
The first action, rehabilitating the Phoenician settlement and the coastal battery and preparing them for visitors, includes urgent and necessary work to convert this historic and heritage space into a cultural site that can be enjoyed by the general public.
The planned works are:
- Closing off the area owned by the Island Council of Ibiza to ensure conservation of its museological and heritage elements.
- Restoration of all the remains of the Phoenician settlement, including those currently covered for safety reasons.
- Restoration of the other military battery elements, especially its underground tunnels, the site of the two cannons and the command post, among others.
- Drafting the executive museological project.
- Performing all the abovementioned works.
The second action, the creation of an interpretation centre, will take advantage of the splendid space provided by the military barracks, which has already been restored. This centre will have: a reception; a room where a Phoenician house will be reproduced to natural scale, with all its typical elements; an audiovisual room, which, besides providing extensive explanations on the Phoenicians and the reasons why they settled in sa Caleta, will also explain the historical context of the 1940 military battery and, in general, the scope of the World Heritage Ibiza Biodiversity and Culture declaration. Finally, a third room will be used for educational games on these subjects by schools.
