The project

FREE GUIDED VISITS ON DECEMBER 2020 AND JANUARY 2021

During the months of december 2020 and january 2021, it will be possible to enjoy of free and guided visits for small groups.

The Government of the Balearic Islands (through the no longer functioning INESTUR, now the ATB), acquired the 17th-century San Diego convent, which is protected as a cultural asset. From the time of its acquisition through to the present day it has undergone a complete refurbishment (Patio de la Luna), with initial maintenance works followed by a renovation project.

However, the next step is to finish the work and restore the grisailles murals, which are of great heritage value. The proposed allocation for this project would go towards meeting these two needs, with which the San Diego convent would be an example of heritage renovation funded by resources from the Sustainable Tourism Tax.

Accordingly, the project submitted has the aim of completing the comprehensive renovation of the San Diego convent, full installation of the climate-control system with all necessary machinery, interior ducts, the completion of two rooms for a new proposed use as a “Menorca Gastronomy Centre”, cleaning and waterproofing the cistern, full restoration of the “grisaille” murals, re-installing those already restored, and restoring the keystone in all of the vaults.
