The project

The execution of a competitive tender for the creation and consolidation of knowledge clusters is due to one of the weaknesses of the R&D&i system of the Balearic Islands, which focuses on the reduced demand and the weak absorption of knowledge by the private sector. In this way, by strengthening interface bodies (such as clusters) that promote and channel this knowledge absorption, it will promote diversification in the islands' economic model towards one based on competitive knowledge, which in turn will generate more wealth, protect the environment and create skilled jobs.

Furthermore, it will provide visibility to different sectors and business environments that are part of different areas of the productive network (chemical, biotechnological, IT and tourism) that are related to existing knowledge clusters (CLIQIB, BIOBIM, TURISTEC and BALEARS.T).

The objective of this tender is to grant subsidies, based on a competitive tendering, to Innovative Business Groups (Knowledge Clusters), located fiscally and physically in the territorial area of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, for the creation and/or maintenance of their respective skills to foster and promote the transfer of knowledge and innovation in the productive and business sector, in a way that increases the competitiveness of our economy.

The necessary actions to be undertaken include: the preparation of the tender by gathering information from other autonomous communities; the processing of the tender by making all the steps required for the approval of the publication in the BOIB Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands; the resolution of the tender: through two evaluations, one external and one internal; the execution of the selected projects by the chosen participant which will last three years; and an annual review.

The tender will take place in 2018 with a maximum amount of €480,000. The duration of each period will be three years and will be granted based on a regime of publicity, competitive concurrence and objectivity.
