Project for the pipeline from the Ciutadella desalination plant to the Son Blanc reservoir

The project

The inspection and recognition of the work and facilities of the Ocean Water Desalination Facility (IDAM) in Ciutadella was carried out in 2016, concluding that this facility is not in proper condition to supply water to the population. The desalination plant is currently only connected via one gravity pipeline to the Artrutx reservoir, thus only allowing it to supply to the Cala en Bosch area.

This project aims to pipe the water from the Ciutadella desalination plant to the Son Blanc reservoir via a treated water distribution line system. This will mainly involve two lines, one that will go from the pumping station in a westerly direction up to Camino de s'Hort de Ses Taronges and another one that will start from the previous point described above, in a southerly direction up to the Son Blanc reservoir where the discharge will take place.

This series of work will facilitate the first piping stage, to supply the urban centre of Ciutadella. Apart from expanding the above-ground supply network in Ciutadella, it will also optimise operation of its desalination plant operation allowing service to be provided to a greater number of locals.

This project seeks to promote certain objectives, including the artificial recharging of aquifers, the extension of existing networks in municipal areas where they still do not exist, the optimisation of seawater desalination, the improvement of the purification and treatment of derivative waste, and the reuse of wastewater.
